| 1977 | – Pat Murphy Garst of Des Moines, Iowa, a celiac and cookbook author, starts the Midwestern Celiac Sprue Association (MCSA) with members in 11 states. – Officers are elected. First conference is held, 127 families from 23 states attended. |
| 1981 | – Lifeline is published. |
| 1984 | – MCSA members vote to make the organization national. |
| 1985 | – MCSA officially incorporates as the Celiac Sprue Association – United States of America (CSA). |
| 1986 | – CSA designated as an IRS 501(c)(3) charity. |
| 2009 | – 94,000 database contacts, more than 9,000 members, and over 125 chapters and resource units. |

Organized to Produce Results The CSA website provides individuals instant access to a library of resources including the latest celiac disease CSA’s toll-free telephone help line fields over 1,200 calls per month from the health community, food industry, CSA provides ongoing consumer protection service by randomly testing products for gluten content.
